01 / Recognising the pattern

When concern about your health starts taking over.

Perhaps the worry begins with a perfectly ordinary sensation — and suddenly it's all you can think about.

You may notice your heartbeat, a headache or a new physical sensation and feel drawn to search for explanations. You might ask someone for reassurance, book repeated checks, or find yourself afraid to attend appointments.

Health anxiety can make everyday uncertainty feel urgent. The worry is real, and the sensations you notice deserve to be taken seriously — but fear and persistent checking can also become exhausting.

We can begin by understanding what you're experiencing and what you'd like life to feel like, without telling you to ignore genuine medical concerns.

02 / Understanding the worry cycle

The reassurance helps — but often only for a moment.

01

A sensation catches your attention

A physical change, health story or memory raises a question. Your attention becomes focused on possible danger.

02

You seek certainty

Checking, searching or reassurance may offer short-term relief. Unfortunately, the next uncertainty can quickly bring the worry back.

03

Life gets smaller

Time, concentration, sleep and relationships can become shaped by worry. The aim is to regain room for everyday living.

A compassionate distinction: having health anxiety does not mean you cannot also have a medical condition. New, persistent or concerning symptoms should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.

03 / Your therapeutic approach

Hypnotherapy and NLP, centred on the change you want.

A collaborative approach to feeling less caught up in worry and more present in daily life.

Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy offers space to clarify your goals, identify personal strengths and explore relaxation or focused-attention techniques where suitable.

NLP-informed techniques may be used to explore unhelpful associations, change how you relate to certain thoughts and rehearse more helpful ways of responding.

CBT-informed strategies can help you notice the connections between interpretation, anxiety and checking behaviours, and consider balanced responses to uncertainty.

We'll discuss suitability, what each approach involves and how to review progress. There is no fixed programme or guaranteed outcome.

04 / Shifting the relationship with worry

You can care about your health without monitoring every moment.

Notice the pattern

Recognise when checking has moved from sensible care into a repeated attempt to settle anxiety.

Make room for uncertainty

Explore ways to respond to unanswered questions without instantly searching for another explanation.

Return to what matters

Consider gentle, realistic steps back towards activities and routines that worry has crowded out.

We'll agree any practical ideas together. The page does not recommend ignoring symptoms, stopping medication, or avoiding necessary medical appointments.

05 / Clinical care and informed choices

Good support includes knowing when to seek medical advice.

Your health concerns deserve thoughtful attention, not automatic reassurance or dismissal.

If you have a new, persistent or worsening physical symptom, speak with your GP or another appropriate medical professional. Urgent or emergency symptoms require urgent medical attention.

For persistent health anxiety, the NHS explains self-help approaches and treatment options, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). You may also be able to contact NHS Talking Therapies directly.

My hypnotherapy and NLP work is intended to offer supportive therapeutic options where suitable; it does not replace diagnosis, medical assessment or specialist treatment.

10 / Common questions

Health anxiety: questions answered.

Clear, considered information to help you decide your next step.

What is health anxiety?

Health anxiety involves persistent worry about having or developing a serious illness. It can include repeated symptom searches, bodily checking, reassurance-seeking or avoiding medical information. A clinician can help assess what is happening.

Can hypnotherapy help me feel calmer around health worries?

Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy can offer supportive work on relaxation, goals and your responses to anxious thoughts. Suitability and progress are individual, and it does not replace medical assessment or specialist care.

How does NLP fit into your approach?

Where suitable, I may use NLP-informed techniques to explore unhelpful associations and rehearse different responses to worry. We will discuss each approach openly and agree what feels appropriate.

Do you use CBT?

I use appropriate CBT-informed tools, such as noticing how interpretations, worry and checking interact. This is not a claim to provide a complete specialist CBT programme. The NHS recommends CBT as a treatment option for health anxiety.

Should I stop checking symptoms or seeking medical advice?

No. You should continue to seek appropriate medical advice for new, persistent or concerning symptoms. Our work may explore repeated checking or reassurance when it becomes part of an anxiety cycle, without replacing sensible healthcare.

Is health anxiety the same as OCD?

They can share features, including intrusive thoughts and compulsive checking, but are not necessarily the same. Appropriate assessment can help clarify what support is needed.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number that reliably applies to everyone. We will discuss your needs, consider suitable options and review progress together. You can stop or seek alternative support at any time.

Can I book online from outside Wiltshire?

Yes. Suitable online appointments are available throughout the UK. In-person appointments are in Swindon, with enquiries welcome from Cirencester and communities within approximately 50 miles.

How much does a session cost?

The initial consultation is free. The published standard session fee is £75; some eligible clients may qualify for a £65 concession. Please check the current fees page before booking.

What if I am worried about a new physical symptom?

A new, persistent, worsening or concerning physical symptom should be discussed with an appropriate medical professional. In an emergency, use urgent medical services. Therapy is not a diagnostic service.

11 / Take the next step

You deserve more time for living, and less for worrying.

You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out. A free consultation is simply a conversation about your experiences and options.
