Self‑Harm Recovery — You Are Not Alone

You don't need me to tell you it's painful. You know that better than anyone. What you might not know is: it is not who you are. It is a way to cope when feelings feel too big to hold. And there are kinder, gentler ways to hold them — ways we can find together.

"Recovery is not about never feeling pain again. It's about learning to be kind to yourself while you feel it."

Understanding What's Happening

Self‑harm is often a signal — not a character flaw. It is a way the mind tries to manage overwhelming emotion when words don't work and feelings have nowhere else to go. You may feel:

  • 🌊 Overwhelmed by feelings you can't name or contain
  • 🤐 Unheard or unseen — no‑one understands the depth of it
  • 🔄 Stuck in a cycle — relief followed by guilt followed by the urge again
  • 🤫 Ashamed — hiding it, feeling you should be able to "just stop"
  • 👤 Disconnected — feeling separate from others, from yourself
  • 💔 Carrying old hurts — past pain still shaping your present
  • ⚡ Numb — sometimes it's the only thing that makes you feel something

Why "Just Stop" Doesn't Work

If there was an easy switch, you would have flicked it already. The behaviour fills a need — release, control, expression, relief. Until we find healthier ways to meet that need, the urge returns. We don't just take something away — we replace it with something better: safety, understanding, and new ways to care for yourself.

How We Work Together

My approach is gentle, non‑judgemental and solution‑focused. I will never be shocked, never shame you, and never demand you stop before you're ready.

✨ Create Safe Space

Everything shared stays between us. No‑one else needs to know unless you choose to tell them. You are safe here.

✨ Identify the Need, Not Just the Behaviour

What is it helping you manage? Grief? Anger? Fear? Numbness? When we meet the need directly, the behaviour loses its hold.

✨ Build a "Coping Toolkit"

We find small, gentle alternatives — things you can do instead when the wave rises. Distraction, soothing, release, reaching out — whatever works for you.

✨ Rewrite the Inner Voice

Replace criticism with kindness. Hypnotherapy helps install a deep, caring inner voice — the voice of someone who looks after you, not someone who hurts you.

✨ Heal the Roots

With your permission, we gently tend to the pain beneath the pattern. Not to dwell on it — but to release its hold so it stops shaping your days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have stopped before we start?
Absolutely not. That is exactly what we are working toward together. You don't need to be "better" to deserve support — you deserve it because you are hurting and want things to be different.
Will you tell anyone — my family, GP, school?
Nothing leaves this room without your written permission. Confidentiality is absolute — except in the rare event of immediate life‑threatening risk, which I will always discuss with you openly.
What if I slip back?
Slips are part of recovery. They don't erase progress — they show where more support is needed. We focus on getting back on track with kindness, not blame.
Is hypnotherapy safe for this?
Yes — when approached gently and professionally. We go at your pace. You remain in control throughout. We can also work alongside your GP or mental health team if you wish.
